GPS Basics

GPS consists of a minimum of 24 satellites operating within six medium earth orbits. They circle the earth every 12 hours and transmit continuous navigation signals on two different L-band frequencies. The satellites are not geosynchronous (stationary over a fixed point on the earth) as some believe.
