User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Good Value
A lightning fired my cable modem, Vonage router/adapter,and laptop. The surge must have come through my cable connection. The cable guy who came to replace the modem had to work on the pole for more than two hours. Only if, I had this UPS before the strike, I would have few hundred dollars in my bank account. My old surge protector was a good one but did not address coax.

4 Stars APC is quality

Cnet and Consumer Reports both give APC high marks. I always check those 2 sources before I buy anything electronic.

Except for having to crawl around on the floor, the units were easy to install. Read the directions.

Florida power is notorious. These units have already justified their purchase price.

3 Stars Battery backup.
I did not use the backup power. I was able to replace the battery on the old one. When I read past reviews indicated that others do the same.

3 Stars Good performer but too small for me
This product was listed as a recommended accessory for the flat panel TV I purchased here at Amazon.com. I knew I wanted/needed a battery backup unit so I looked into my options.

I want to say right here, right now - I’m a HUGE fan of APC and own several products from them for my computer and electronics!

I didn’t know if 550VA was really the right rating for my setup so I looked into that. And I thought maybe there would be something more stylish. I found a great alternative but it was $[...]!!! APC, What are you thinking?!?

The $[...] unit is marketed specically for home theatre, A/V setups and is beautiful. It’s not clear what VA rating it is but it’s billed as a power conditioning filter also. While writing this I went to check the specs and there are now 4 models (2 black and 2 silver) at $[...] or $[...] each. That’s better but it’s still way out of my price range. That’s 1/4 the cost of the TV for heaven’s sake.

Long story short, this unit was only $[...] and nothing higher (short of the $[...] model) looked much better or hand significant advantages for my purpose, so I bought this one.

It has already saved my setup 3 times from storms but the last time it didn’t protect my Home Theatre Receiver from going off and losing it’s memory. The unit looks bulky and crap next to all my new compenents.

On the positive side, it’s not huge, it has plenty of plugs and enough oriented properly to handle adaptors and things without sacraficing other plugs, AND it’s APC which a big plus.

I would recommend this hands down over anything above it unless you can afford the really expensive home theatre models.

4 Stars UPS, a must have for any computer
This item works very well. I’ve had them in the past and do still have others on other electronic equipment in my home. Very nice to have on the computers, PS3, PS2, etc. Nothing worst than losing info / game when power is disrupted. And power surges are going on daily almost everywhere………even the minute ones can ruin something over time.
